A case study on Luxury Residential Design
Lake Austin Retreat
Location: Austin, TEXAS
Size: 8,060 SQ FT
Scope: New Construction
Style: Light-Filled, Modern LakehouseA HOME DESIGNED
FOR GATHERING
This project was envisioned as a welcoming lakefront home where friends and family could gather often and comfortably. Designed as a destination for connection, celebration, and everyday retreat, the home needed to function seamlessly for large groups while still feeling calm, cohesive, and intentional.
Our primary challenge was building on a tight, sloped lot while accommodating multiple levels of living space — without compromising flow, light, or lake views.
-
Create a highly functional home that supports frequent hosting, large gatherings, and overnight guests.
-
Work with the natural slope of the lot to design a bi-level home that feels intuitive, open, and grounded in its setting.
CAPTURING MODERN LAKEHOUSE LIVING
View-Forward Design:
Every rear-facing space was intentionally oriented to capture uninterrupted views of the lake, allowing the landscape to remain the focal point throughout the home.
Hospitality-Ready Planning:
Layouts were designed to accommodate parties, functions, and full-house weekends with ease — offering generous seating, flexible gathering spaces, and thoughtful separation between social and private zones.
Thoughtful Functionality:
A split-level entry and bi-level floor plan create natural transitions throughout the home, making movement between spaces feel organic rather than segmented.
TEXTURE-RICH, LAKESIDE DESIGN
Natural Foundations:
Quartzite and natural stone countertops were selected throughout the home to reflect the blues and greens of the surrounding water and landscape.
Timeless Layers:
Custom stonework wraps the primary shower and tub surrounds, while a full-height quartzite kitchen backsplash adds visual continuity and quiet drama.
Refined Palette:
Blues, greens, and soft neutrals are layered with warm wood tones, including a custom slatted wood wall with concealed doors leading to the primary suite — blending architectural interest with subtle functionality.
MADE FOR HOSTING + RETREAT
From casual weekends on the lake to large-scale gatherings, this home was intentionally designed to host — open, flexible, and effortlessly livable.
Unexpected moments of success emerged post-completion, including the placement of the game room on the lower level, which allows for lively activity without disrupting the calm of the main living spaces. Comfortable, performance-driven furnishings and easy-care materials ensure the home remains as functional as it is beautiful.
Durable, light-filled, and designed with flow at the forefront, this lakefront retreat is welcoming, resilient, and made for meaningful time together.
